Tired of Sewage Backups? Here’s How to Help!
At some point I will add actual pictures here of our sewer lines so you can see what is going on.
They have 50 years of sludge in them, 50 years of grease buildup, and 50 years of laundry soap buildup. What this creates is not a pretty sight. Add to that the tree and bush roots going under and around them creating breaks.
So what can you do to help?
- Do not put your grease down the drain! Put it in a plastic container and throw in the trash.
- Use septic system approved toilet paper or similar.
- Avoid flushing paper towels or toys or balls down the toilet. In fact female hygienic products are better in the trash than in our toilets.
- Minimize use of your garbage disposal.
- Replace your garbage disposal with one that is greater than 1/2 HP.
Believe it or not, the gels from the washer soap mixed with the grease from the kitchen make a clump that is thicker than any substance originally expected to go through these pipes. Unfortunately this problem is not going away. It would cost us more than the cost of the new roadways to replace and separate all the sewer pipes necessary to offer a system with the capacity and worry-free confidence of a newly built building.
Everyone can do their part, however, and help to keep the costs of our system to a minimum.
Live neighborly! We are a village!
Thank you!

Agree. I only use my garbage disposal to help clear the water in my sink to help with drainage. Several plumbers have strongly recommended NOT to put ANY food in the disposal because at some point there will be a clog.
