Upcoming Elections
Hello Neighbors of Sussex Square!
It’s time! Time for you to considering making a commitment to your community! You are a shareholder here you know! And as a share holder you have input into how your money is spent.
But you can also join the Board of Directors and have even more influence on how your money is spent! The role of the Board is simply to ensure the common property that we all share is managed and maintained in a sound fiscal manner. According to the bylaws the board simply has an administrative function, to run the corporation that owns the common property.
We need help. We need people who can commit to a few hours each month to help run the corporate operations. That includes helping to find contractors to do the work, being available to approve urgent work that needs done such as sewer backups, helping to update and approve the minutes, keeping a watch on the financial accounts, and any other administrative tasks that need done on a regular basis. It is not hard work being on the board. But it does require a small amount of commitment.
With the new management agent American Dream Realty and now that the transition is completed many of the functions are more automated while still providing the board input that is required according to the bylaws. So now is a great time to join since we have finally navigated out of the white water rapids and into the smooth water!
We currently have 3 director openings on the board and are inviting you to run for one of the available director positions.
Looking at section V of the bylaws, we elect 5 directors. We do not elect officers. So everyone runs in an election as a candidate for a director position. After the elections, the directors then assign themselves to the officer positions. This can be done in private in a special meeting, but there is usually no need to do that. We have in the past and will continue to assign officer positions during the same meeting that the elections are completed (either the annual meeting or the reconvened meeting).
So if you would like to serve your community for a 3 year term by being on the board, please just send an email to Christi Campo that you are nominating yourself. Or if you know someone you think would be perfect on the board you may nominate that person, but also make sure they are willing to make the commitment.
All nominations need to be submitted prior to February 23 in order to be on the ballot. If you don’t get it submitted in time, you can still run, but you will have to solicit your neighbors to write your name in on the ballot either by proxy vote or by attending the annual meeting on Tuesday March 25.
So hope to see some good candidates this year who are willing to make the commitment and willing to take pride in the upkeep of our neighborhood!
Thank you!
